Hello all,
I would like some information on the installation of Oracle on the OS/390. First, I realize that there are people currently running with Oracle 7.3.x on 1.2; others are possibly migrating to 8.1.6 or 8.1.7 running on 2.8. How difficult and how much time should be allocated for an initial install of Oracle on the OS/390 platform. I also note that Oracle is moving towards OSDI and away from MPM - could any of you share your opinions on this ?
Thank you,
Jim McLaughlin

Jim,
We have Oracle 817 on MVS with OSDI (as installed by oracle expert which upgraded our old oracle 815 MPM)
I put in oracle 9i for a quick "sanity" test and it took 2 days
but there again I used the OSDI that was already there.
Once you get your head round OSDI its quite simple
but it does mean adding a subsystem which you can do on the fly but IPL is best.
The OMVS JAVA bits are also a bit fiddly.
So say 1 week to put it all in from scratch
Definately go for OSDI as migration will be much easier.
Rgds Robin
