I might be giving service_name wrong.....

I installed oracle 9i on my system where client and server are there on same system

i would like to know , how to find out what service name is there in my system and how to find out the service_name

Open TSNNAMES.ORA file , there you will find the service name. This file resides in oracleora81networkADMIN .

First of all there is no need to have client installed in the server.

Secondly to get your service name search for TNSNAMES.ORA file open that in Notepad and look for SID,which is your Server Identifier.

Third give the correcct Username and Password to get connected.
