i downloaded and installed oracle 9i.when i give username,password and host string, it gives an error that TNS protocol adaptor error.i don't know how to solve this problem.please help me.

This error comes when ur oracle database service not started or oracle database not installed

if it is win2000 (check ur os)goto control panel
-administrator - services click services

check there oracleservice started or not

thank you for yr reply.i tried for it but i did not start oracle service.b'coz that option is not available there.please help me to solve this problem.

dear push

go to control pannel -> administrative tools -> services

select your service it should be like "oralce<database>service".

if your database name is prod then service will be
"oracleprodservice"

start the service

this will solve yr problem

if you cant

drop the service and recreate it from prompt.
