Can anyone explain the differences between Oracle 9i and Access XP in terms of security, Multi-user capability, transaction processing, recovery etc. Is Access now direct competition to Oracle?

You can't compare Access XP or otherwise to a System of Oracle's magnitude. I don't know where to start but if you are looking for a secured, robost with several concurrent user connections, I will advice Oracle 9i. User license is a different ball game altogether with Oracle though.
