Hi,
My question "What is Oracle?" and "What is its purpose?" might sound stupid for you (since you all are professionalists in this area), but I am a marketing specialist that is going to start work in a company creating business to business IT solutions based on Oracle. I know nothing about Oracle and I just wanted that you tell me a little bit more about it or just tell me where on the web I can find some more information.
Thank you!
Mirena

Hi Mirena,
IT solutions based on Oracle can mean a lot of things.
First of all, Oracle is an American company. Their main product is a relational database (a database is a bunch of tables, "relational" means that the tables are linked to each other (a column in one table can refer to a column in another other table)).
Besides that, the company Oracle also created a lot of tools or programs with which one can design and create a database, or make applications that use this database. All the available products are on www.oracle.com
So if you have "IT solutions based on Oracle", it probably means that their solutions at least use the Oracle database. It doesn't necessarily mean that every other part of their solutions is using Oracle software, (if they have, for example, a program to access the database, it can be written in any program language, like Java, VB, C++, ...) but at least the database should be Oracle.
I hope this is a start for you...
Cheers,
Epe
