Just installed Oracle 9.2.0.4 on a new OpenVMS server. Trying to create the 1st database. Did the following:
$ orauser.com
$ sqlplus /nolog
connect sys as sysdba
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
I've also tried to define the ORA_SID logical for the new database prior to doing this, but it doesn't help. Obviously I've missed a step. Any thoughts?

At the time of installation, if database configuration is not configured properly this problem may come. If you are connecting to other machine may have the network problem. Or may be some problem in service name. If you are using windows 2000 advanced server with active directory installed, you should specify the windows domain name followed by instance name and dot. Eg instance_name.windows_domain_name as a connection string.
Once try if not let me know.
