Has anyone successfully installed Oracle 9i server on a Intel machine with Windows XP HOME Edition. The OTN site says it only certifies Oracle 9i on XP PROFESSIONAL. Does *CERTIFY* mean that they will only provide support for those platforms or does it mean that Oracle will just not install/run/perform on platforms that it does not CERTIFY. I only need to install it for study purposes as I have P4 with XP Home on it. If anyone has successfully installed 9i on XP Home and its running smoothly please let me know.

I've successfully install Oracle 8i on Windows XP home edition platform. I think it's similar for installing Oracle 9i on Windows XP. You may need to check with Oracle web site and download the patch before installing. However, you need username and password to login Oracle support site.

im trying to install 9i on my XP Professional Box with p4 chip...so everything is right...but the automatic installer will not run i get this:

c:installdisk1setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

anyone have a clue what is happening?

what did you do?...my setup.exe wont work on an xp professional p4 machine...should i go back and try 8i?

I get the same on XP Professional.
I read that disk1 has to be moved to directly under C:
but that didn't work either.

Java applet is deactivated on XP as far as I know - you must download the JDK from http://java.sun.com

Its likely a problem with your CD-ROM driver
Check with your manufacturer website for a update
Seems to be a conflict setup vs cdrom driver

sir ...I ever got a messege when I am downloading any one setup. the following messege should be displayed setup.exe is not valid for win32 application. i have window xp profeesional 2003 version..pls reply me I am in so tense due to that problem.

I think you have downloaded the 64 bit version of Oracle and need to grab the 32 bit version. We tried an installation at work the other day and found that we were trying to install the 64 bit version on a 32 bit machine.

I've installed 8i, 9i and 10g onto Windows XP. Make sure its XP Professional. 8i had a .dll fix, 9i was the same as 8i but the footprint for the Enterprise Version is over 2gb whereas 8i is about 900mb. 10g is just over a gig. I found 10g to be the easiest to install but make sure you include the client. Having recently retired I now am on Windows...spent 20 years on Sun Workstations and unix...so Windows presents problems that are a bit more awkward to fix. I could generally fix most of my problems on unix. Hope this helps...fyi..the dll problem (cant think of it...but it is often mentioned if you run a search through google...just a matter of changing its name.)

i m using Windows XP Operating System.

My Problem is that When i tried to install Oracle 9i on machine in Windows XP it give me TNS Protocol Error. and Database not found.

If you haven't found the documentation yet... here is the Oracle OTN website that has the whole documentation. Everything you need to know to install Oracle 9i on Windows XP.

Just copy the above URL and paste it in your address bar. You can then download and print the full document or the sections that you want.
