We have the Gateway 500L Model System. It is a P4 System with 256MB Ram and 20GB HDD and Win 2000 Professional OS. I tried to install Oracle 8i in the system but after pressing the setup.exe file there is no activity going on.In that system we are not using any other programs. We checked the all the hardware in the system and there are no errors in them. But if I install oracle 8i in a P3 system of the above brand company it is working. we are able to install in other brand system with the same CD with the same OS.Can anyone please solve this problem?

1. Make three directories OracleTemp, Oracle Management Pack, and Oracle Diagnostics Packs on your local machine.

2. Copy all files from the Oracle 8i CD’s to the new directories on your local machine.

3. Search for the file SYMCJIT.DLL in the OracleTemp directory. You should locate 2 files with this name. DELETE both files.

4. Search for the file SYMCJIT.DLL in the Oracle Management Pack directory. You should locate 1 file with this name. DELETE file.

5. Search for the file SYMCJIT.DLL in the Oracle Diagnostics Packs directory. You should locate 1 file with this name. DELETE file.

6. Restart your machine

7. Go to OracleTempInstallWin32 and double click on the SETUP.exe file.

8. Go to Oracle Management PackInstallWin32 and double click on the SETUP.exe file.

9. Go to Oracle Diagnostics PacksInstallWin32 and double click on the SETUP.exe file.

10. The Universal Installer should now be running, if it is continue with the ORCL database setup and installation instructions. If not review instructions above.

I could able to install oracle 8i after deleting the file SYMCJIT.DLL as told by you. I am thankful for that.

Now I am eager to know what is the fault in that file? Can you please tell me whats wrong with that file?

There is a Java bug in the Universal Installer, when you delete that file, you bypass the problem. There is a patch available on the Java website, also the problem with the installer has been corrected in 9i.
