Urgent ....!!!!!
Hi
I am not able to install orcle 8i Personal and Enterprise Edition Release 2 (8.1.6) on windows XP.
When I insert the CD and click on install/deinstall products the mouse goes into busy mode and then oracle installation wizard just goes off.
Both of these were working fine on Windows 2000.
Can you please help me with this.

Are you a P4 processor ?
If oracle installer is not yet installed then the problem is oraparam.ini needs and extra entry in JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS
change the above from " -mx48m" to "-mx48m -nojit"
Oracle installer will install correctly, it install other products once universal installer in installed then change the symcjit.dll to the later version.
This is because symcjit.dll is a incorrect version, as oracle installer is probably already installed on the machine, the dll will exist within the folder.
Delete the dll and check out

sir,
i have a problem in installing oracle 8 on windows 98 & windows ME....oracle 8 get installed but after installing oracle 8 , when i try to install developer 2000 then there is some error message and developer is not installed....
i will be grateful if you suggest me a way to get rid of this problem and give details information...

I changed the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS and the installer worked. However I was am constantly getting a java.exe error and the oracle service is not starting. The error mentions symcjit.dll
What should I do?

i want to install oracle 8i in win_XP
but an error msg :
invalid staging area.
there are no top level components for windows NT available for install from this staging area.
