Oracle 8i was installed but database was not created.
We made necessary changes in the Oraparam file.
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -mx16m -mx32m

But we are not able to connect to database using SQL Plus or from DOS promt.
Please can any buddy pull me out of this porblem.
have nice time.

Hi,
I am having windowsXP Pro system on which I have problem of installing Oracle 8.1.7.
When I put the autorun cd It gives installation option. But when I click on that it won't go further.
I tried by exploring cd and giving setup manually, even that is not happening. Can you plezse tell me is it problem of version that is not supported by windowsXP Pro. Or Ineed to install any latest version for thes same.

after installation u go to the oracle devolper folder and there is a folder net80. open it then theere is another folder admin. open it. here is a text file tsnames.ora. open it
and there is a statement
tcp_loopback.world so u must change it i.e.
insted of tcp_loopback give the yr database name i.e.
databasename.world
after that move the cursoe at benathe ther is a
host statment ip so u should change it that u give there the name of ur computer i.e
host=computer name
then save the file and copy it
then goto the oracledevolpernet80tnsname.ora u paste there. it will say replace it u told yes.
after that open sql plus and in user name write
system/manager@databasename then connect
ok take care

raju: u hav to start the oracle services before using oracle instance
if services are already started then u need to mount and then open the database using svrmgrl command on DOS prompt.
i m sure this will solve ur problem
