You are likely running into one of the following problems:

1. you have multiple Java environments and the wrong resources are being used.

2. a bug with or in the JVM being used by Oracle

My first suggestion is to move to at least windows NT, if not windows 2000 as NT is the main development platform for Oracle's windows products, if you are stuck on 98 then create a tar with Oracle support.

If you have to go it on your own, then try to remove all remants of ANY Oracle and any Java on the box, then reload Oracle.

I hope this helps!

Problem while installing the oracle 8.1.7 client. I installed server on one machine and trying to install client on one different machine. But it's giving me problem while installation is in progress.
Installation stops when it is coping file RefCur.vbp. The message in the log file is as given below:
Unable to read C:Program FilesOracleInventory/Contents/OracleHomesList.ser. Some inventory information may be lost.Unable to read C:Program FilesOracleInventory/Contents/LibsList.ser. Some inventory information may be lost.
The installer version is 1.7.1.9.0

So if anybody know how to proceed from here , pls let me know.
Thanks
Sam

Easy fix, install Explorer 6.0, reboot and pickup where you left off in the installer.
