I have the same problem with version 8i version 8.1.7, it will not install on Pentium 4 processors, I was able to get this version to install on P3's and P2's.
windows 2000 SP2
The problem is that the java installer will run on P4 machine. Is there fix for it?

Folks,
There seems to be a work-around, but, this calls for a humongous disk. Here goes...
1. Create a temporary directory on the machine.
2. Copy contents of the Oracle 8.1.x installation CD on to the temporary directory.
3. Rename stageComponentsoracle.swd.jre1.1.7.301DataFilesExpandedjrewin32binsymcjit.dll symcjit.dll.ori.
4. Run installation from the installer binary in the temporary directory.
Once the installation is through, the temporary directory and its contents can be deleted, of course.
