Unfortunately, Oracle Products doesnt work on Windows ME. This was conveyed to me by the oracle itself. So i would tell you to chose another operating system instead.

If you are facing the staging are and win 95 component problem. Please do the following
1. open win.ini
2. search [[compatibility 95]]
3. Add Jrew=0x00080000 in the compatibility 95 section.
4. Save the win.ini file and reboot your machine.

This change will let the Java Runtime Engine know that this is a Windows95 compatible machine. Before the fix it does not recognize the operating system and that is why it fails.

That is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. Well guess what, oh genius one. I just happen to be running Oracle 8i on the machine I am writing this thread with. Oh and by the way, I have ME installed. Go figure, must be some kind of paradox I jumped into or something, huh?

Windows ME Users Only:

Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.6 PE into Windows Millennium Edition.

As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line to the [[compatibility95]] section of Win.ini prior to installation. You can find the Win.ini file in C:Windows.

Jrew=0x00080000
