dears,

Simple question : how do i remove the Oracle 8.x instance from my AIX server in order to install a 9.x version on a clean disk ?

1. You can install 9i in the same server where an 9i database already exists.
2. to remove the existing instance
   use dbca(dbassist in 8i ) to remove the database.
   use oui to uninstall 8i binaries.

i've found this too ( it might help)

to remove cleanly the ORACLE 8.i software,
it seems thet we just have to remove
the $ORACLE_HOME, OraInventory /etc/oratab , var/opt/oracle/oratab file/s, opt/oracle ...

with: rm -Rf [[name of the dir]] Unix command line.
