1. Check if java is working and the version. Just type java -version on the command line.
If you come accross any message like java not found or some sort, it means that java is not in the PATH of the oracle user. Add it and that should work.
2. If everything mentioned above is fine then, try using different Window Manager, for eg if u r using KDE try using GNome, fvwm...etc..etc
