I have the same problem.
I have installed Oracle 817 on redhat. Installation worked fine.

The solution I got from one of my friend is:
Red Hat 7.0 And Oracle 8.1.7 is not competeble. (You can find this on metalink.oracle.com)

Try to swictch the glibc version back to 2.0 (Download is available for glibc 2.0 on gnu)

after installing glibc 2.0 version, try the same thing. It will probably work. (I havent tried this, instead I have decided to go for Linux 7.2)

I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7 on redhat 7.2 but it's not allowing me to install. is there any solution for that

I have tried the linux 7.2 (redhat) and oracle 8.1.7 install. but no success.

According to oracle redhat 7.2 is not certified yet for oracle 8.1.7

I have the same problem.
When I run the installer, it says that it runs the JVM, and ..... nothing.
I would be very great if somebody could help.
