Hi

I’m having an XML £ pound problem.

I’m using dbms_xmlgen to generate an xml file.

The data includes numerous £ signs and I need to keep them in the data passed on.

However Oracle seems to tread these special characters differently if I open the xml file in internet explorer the text stops just at the £, if I open the xml file in notepad it’s fine.

I’m generating almost the exact same file with vb.net and Excel and that works fine.

So I had a look at the code set and the Oracle xml is ANSI but the Excel one is UTF-8.

My DBA insists that the Oracle DB has a code set of UTF 8 and refuses to change it.

Just to complicate matters the XML is loaded into another bank database and it needs to be in very specific format for the loader to pick it up correctly. So I cannot change the £ into ASCII characters etc. I need my Oracle xml file to be as is but in UTF-8.

ANY IDEAS?

THANKS
