Hi All!
I was wondering how popular the oracle extensions to jdbc are. In particular, oracle.sql.* (BLOB,CHAR etc)
allow the app direct access to sql data. How useful is this? and how popular?
All that the jdbc developer guide says about the technical utility of these is an increase in efficiency, and saving on loss of mathematical precision. but looking at this objectively, how useful would this be when compared to losing the portability of your application across databases?
A similar question is regarding the oracle.jdbc.driver package, which provides enhancements to the standard result sets etc.
I have looked at some applications at my company, and they DO use oracle.sql.BLOB and oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleResultSet, but that's about it.
any comments, pointers would be extremely helpful
