I have same problem, and I have solved it.

1. Start DBCA and set parameters.
2. Get the error DIM-00019.
3. Start service "oracleservice(ORACLE_SID)"
Start > Control Panel > Services > oracleservice*
( You mustn't stop DBCA )
4. You continue Installation.

Thatīs good news

Hermes, You are The Man.
Starting the "OracleServiceSID" service worked to complete the database creation. I had an ora-0091 error at 78%, said OK to it. I got it again at the password management screen. I don't think it liked the ( ` ) in the sys/system password. It also had an error and did not create the Oracle Enterprise Manager but said to run the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/emcs script, later. I've heard other complaints about OEM not created at install. So I'll work on that later. Thank you very much.

FYI - This was an Oracle 10g database on Win2003
No problems on Solaris 9

I must say that Oracle sux for not putting any better troubleshooting info anywhere.

Good luck EVERYONE!

I get the same error. However, just starting the OracleServiceSID service doesn't work for me. I get all kinds of errors after that.

The first error that I run into is an 'ORA-12154 TNS could not resolve connect identifier specified'. I ignore that and then get an 'ORA-01031 Insufficient Priveledges'. When I ignore that one I get another ORA-12154.

I'm trying to install Oracle 10g on a Windows 2003 Domain Controller. I'm logged in as the domain administrator.

I have been dealing with this for a fair amount of time and this installation process seems overly complicated. If anyone out there could simplify it for me I would be most grateful.

Thanks,

I was gettting the same error with the same type of config win2003 dc. I was able to work around by using oradim to create the service manually, then letting dbca delete and define. Still get the same 1388 error, just start the service and the db gets created

The issue appears to be Oracle 10G running on a 2003 Domain Controller. In side by side tests with a Domain Controller and a Member Server both running 2003 the DC consistently had the same failure, while the MS consistently had no issues. Interestingly enough, promoting a Member Server running Oracle 10G allows the database service to run, but not without issues. It is not advisable to having any production database running on a DC anyway. 2003 Domain Controllers are locked down, and rightly so. I would suggest that you dedicate a Member Server to the task. You could consider installing it on Linux also, and get some great performance from your Oracle database.

I had the same problem, as described at first post. Firstly, tried to change ORA_DBA group scope - no effect.

I also had some unusual behaviour of domain global security groups. I created Accountants group but could not make it a member of Domain Users. It simply didn't find this object while trying to add. Finally, I've decided to raise domain functional mode to Windows Server 2003 mode. After that it worked as I expected and I was able to add the group. But still - database creation failed.

Read this thread and started OracleServiceSID manually. It continued without further errors.

So, if starting service manually doesn't work, perhaps you need to raise domain functional mode first (it didn't work with Windows 2000 mixed mode for me).

Yeah man! Simply like that!!, if you start the service the configuration of the database is done. If the problem persists only restart the computer and run the database assistant again.
Cool

ORACLE 10 G installation on Windows 2003 ErrorOS ERROR -1388 if continued followed by ORA-12560 error
when u get the error during database Creation ...just goto control panel administrative tools....services..Oracleservice*(where * is ur SID name defined) start it.

Then click ok at the error and the installation proceedes without error.

IT really works as i have tried it.
