I have the option of backing up my DB with or without archive logs. Is it also possible to restore with and without archive logs.

Currently I am using restoration using RMAN for RAC and this fails if there are no archive logs backedup.

Thanks for the help in advance!

depends on your approach.
with RMAN,the most recomended too to backup an oracle database, u cannnot backup if the database is NOARCHIVELOG mode.
other option is to
do a cold backup--- really not fascinating
take a full database export-- which is really not a 'real' backup...but very handy in many cases. takes Longer time to restore.

We use RMAN. So its not possible in NOARCHIVELOG mode? ;-((
..if i do a cold backup, that means i will have service downtime right?
