I'm trying to connect RMAN using an user with DBA rights. When i execute "rman target user/password@database" the system returns "RMAN-00554: initialization of internal recovery manager package failed
RMAN-04005: error from target database: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges". The user belongs dba group of Solaris. I'm using operating system authentication. I have more than one database in the same machine. What's wrong?

Recovery Manager: Release 8.1.6.0.0 - Production

RMAN> connect rcvcat rman/rman@magrcat

RMAN-06008: connected to recovery catalog database

RMAN>

RMAN> connect target /

RMAN-06005: connected to target database: LOCAL (DBID=563053257)

RMAN>

1. the catalog database is magrcat (in network)
2. target database is local ( in the local machine)
3. Make sure all the databases use passwordfile for connection
4. and a valid tnsnames entry.

I just can use RMAN with database that uses password file? What about OS authentication?

and sqlnet.authenfication must be set to MTS

Try:

grant sysdba to rman.

That my work.
