hi..
i'm using win2000 profissional service pack2,
i'm trying to install the Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition on my desktop pc, but i get "end-of-file on communication error" whenever i try to create a database. each time the database creation process reaches 85%, then i get this error.
sometimes if i close all other programs running in the background (msn messanger, antivirus, etc) the database will be created successfully. but when i reboot i get the same error when i try to login to the SQL Plus..
my question is: why do i get this error? and how can i sucessfully create a database and login to it without getting this error?

need more information.
1. are u using DBCA to create database? or Manually?
2. which version of 8i?
anyhow just try again
after commenting out the line SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS) in the sqlnet.ora
