Hello,

We made a few programs in Delphi 7 using the ODAC-components (by CoreLab). (These components use the OCI). The applications were tested at our office on a testdatabase (Oracle 9.2) with Oracle clients of the same version. The programs worked just fine!
Today we wanted to do some tests at our customer's site, but we encountered a problem: we are unable to connect our programs to the database.
The customer's database is an exact copy of our test database (export -> import). They have the same version of Oracle running. We use the same laptops as in the test environment, only their server is a different one.
We can connect through SQLPLUS, but when we try to connect through the ODAC-components (...OCI), we get the "ORA-12154: Could not resolve service name" error.

Does anyone know about differences between the approach to the database by SQLPLUS and OCI?
Does the OCI use other ports than the standard 1521 port (as configured in our tnsnames.ora)? The part of the network of the customer that we are using is protected by a firewall, and for now only port 1521 is opened. The customer's database is on the other side of the firewall... They have, however, a strict policy towards network security, and are not willing to open up all ports (this looks to me as the first test to perform...)

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Kind regards,

Gert
