Hi there,

im runing Oracle 9i on a w2k-server. When i was trying to configure and start a names server, the system brings me this error:

Failed to start service, error 997.
TNS-12536: TNS:operation would block
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00506: Operation would block
32-bit Windows Error: 997: Unknown error

Can anyone help me with that topic?

goto controlPanel/serives.
verify the logon properties for tnslistener are correct and valid.

The problem is in starting windows service for oracle names server. Look in your windows service and you find OracleOra(yourversion)Names(yournamesserver). In properties you can see the path to the executable file Names.exe. This file is missing. To fix this problem you must extract manualy the file Names.exe from your Oracle distributions CD to the specified path. It should be on second Oracle Database CD in package stageComponentsoracle.networking.names(version)1DataFilesexec.1.1.jar.
Note: .jar is ordiary .zip file
