Oracle 8i Client installation program doesn't start [message #66780]

Hello!

Oracle 8i Client (8.1.7) for Windows installation program (setup.exe) doesn't start. Program doesn't show any error messages when trying to start it. It just doesn't start.

My OS is Windows 2000 Professional and the same CD works in the other computers with same OS.

Could there be any DLL:s or other files I need to be in my computer? Or should I make some configuration in my Windows enviroment? Or is there something else to do??

is that a p4 machine?
if so
1. Copy the entire CD to a temp directory in Harddisk
2. look for the filename symcjit.dll.
3. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
4. Run the setup.exe from the Harddisk.

The problem is due to your pentium 4 chip. Copy the contents of the 8i CD to your HD (e.g. c:OracleSetup), find and rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.old. Then start the installation by running setup.exe.

Thank You. I had the same problem, followed the steps above and the problem was resolved. We too are on a Pent IV box

Hi,

I am also facing the similar problem while installing Oracle Net Client to Windows 2000 machine. I have renamed symcjit.dll file and also modified oraparam.ini file (and changed the value of JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter) but still the result is same. It seems there is no processing when i press on SETUP.EXE file......

Thank You. I had the same problem, followed the steps above and the problem was resolved. I have an Intel Celeron 2,4Ghz with HP-COMPAQ D530 SFF computer.
The oracle client installer is 8.1.7 on Windows2000 SP3.
