Hi,

Oracle will do instance recovery when you restart the instance after failure. If you use RAC, the surviving instances will do the instance recovery when the failure is detected. So, either way, Oracle should do it automatically. If it cannot, a DBA will have to intervene.

Hi,

Oracle performs Instance recovery automatically in stages Roll Forward and Roll backward which is done by SMON (System Monitor).
