We have a need to connect an instance of Oracle to an MSSQL database that's behind a firewall. Rather than expose the IP of the database, we would like to deploy the ODBC gateway on both sides with the gateway IP externally exposed. Please reference the attached diagram for reference. Is GW-to-GW communication supported?

Please read the OraFAQ Forum Guide and How to use [code] tags and make your code easier to read.

I do not think that you can use ODBC gateways like that. However, what you could do is replace the gateway in your diagram on the Oracle side with a Connection Manager. You don't have to pay for that, IF you have Enterprise Edition licences.

I've never heard of doubing the gateway like that. however, you have left out a key component, and putting it in will resolve your problem. what you've left out is the odbc connection itself. On that second machine, where you have your second gateway behind the firewall, replace that gateway with the odbc admin/driver.

Read this post about the various links between the oracle client and the final mssql, via the gateway for odbc. The location of the ODBC driver can be on any machine .. it does not have to be on the client machine or the server machine, because the link from ODBC to target is also a network connection.

So your connection would be :
client to oracle db
oracle db to gateway
gateway to odbc, via firewall
odbc to mssql.
