Hi,

Please would you suggest the best way to do the following..?
We have the live database on one linux server, and another pre production which is the same as the live, but not updated with the last 8 months of data as the live database.

We want to update the preproduction db as in the live environment. I am thinking on restoring the full backup on the live database to the preproduction server.

Please would you help me, i am a junior db admin..

Also, both servers are virtual machines running on the same network. I am afraid of doing something wrong on preproductiob which might affect live server. Do i have to change anything so the restore on the preproduction doesnt affect live.

Thank you!

You can use the export/import method easier for a beginner.

Otherwise you can read Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide, Chapter 24 Duplicating a Database.
