Hello,

we have a 12cr2 database which is in Read only mode and its a standalone .. Could you please let me know if i can apply patches to this database ? or do we need to change it to read-write to patch ..

If the patch is an operating system one just to the ORACLE_HOME, yes. If there is a database element to it (SQL scripts) then no.

Yes patch will be applied to ORACLE_HOME and then to database as well ..

Then database needs to be open read-write.

if database is read write mode and if there are some application based tablespaces are locked (for not allowing users do changes in database) will database still able to patch or no ?


SQL> select open_mode from v$database;

OPEN_MODE
--------------------
READ WRITE
