Have you guys seen the announcement from Oracle Support w.r.t DB Links that may stop working in the near future?
In short DATABASE LINKS on Oracle 9i and earlier, unpatched 10g, and 11g and 12c releases that are not on the latest patch-set may fail from June 2019. For more info, read MOS Doc ID 2361478.1.

I read the note. Do you happen to know how it may affect client software? Although our databases are in compliance, we do have client software as old as 10.2.0.1.0 on some *nix machines that we use to access the databases. I will probably put in an SR asking this very question if no one knows.
They are quite vague as to "why" it "may" happen. Is there some time bomb built into the database that will cause this, because I don't know how it can all of a sudden trigger in say a 9i or 10g database. If you are so far behind the times, you are not installing anything new patches to the database, so what will trigger it to stop working?
[added] oh, ok, I re-read it. Somehow I missed that they are talking about inseparability with newer releases.
