Hey our application is built in Pro*COBOL which was working fine in 11g but as we are upgrading on 12c its is giving error invalid USERNAME/PASSWORD
where as we are able to connect through normal command prompt.

but there is no mention of any changes required in Pro*COBOL in 12 c but while searching I found out below solution. It is applied and now it is working fine ..

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23013278/cobol-connect-to-oracle-failed-when-password-field-is-defined-longer-than-real-p

can any one tell me why the changes are required ..

Oracle 12c has tighter security.

Oracle is too dumb to lie.
ORA-01017 means strings provided to the database for user authentication do NOT match what Oracle knows.
