We are going to have a Oracle database maintenance contract with our vendor. They have suggested the following points will be taken care by them as part of DBA Service. Is anything more to be added to this list to be more effective.

1. Checking daily error log and trace files. Backup and deleting the same.
2. Checking daily alerts and ensuring minimum downtime.
3. Monitoring and increasing tablespace
4. Monitoring performance variables like disk I/O, CPU Utilisation, Memory utilization.
5. Monitoring Rollback segment / undo Segment
6. Periodical Index rebuilding
7. Monitoring system utilization against database parameters
8. Tracking new patch releases and bug fixes and applying the same in DB.
9. Raising Service request and applying the recommendations.

Thankyou

Easy to do:
8. There is no more patches
9. No need to raise any SR, the recommendation is upgrade.
Good luck.

Note: you did not feedback in your previous topics despite the fact you told us you will tell us if you succeeded.

Upgrade to 11g or 12c is already part of this contract and point 8 and 9 will be considered after this upgrade also.

Thank you for remembering about my previous topic. Am yet to test the same, definitely i will update the status as soon as it is done.

Your vendor is not giving you very much. The company I work for would do this:

1. install a job to mail you when an error message is written to the alert log
2. configure the server generated alert system to raise alerts when certain metric thresholds are crossed.
3. configure this to occur automatically when needed.
4. just another job that will mail you when certain thresholds are crossed
5. ditto
6. why would you pay someone to degrade performance by rebuilding indexes?
7. do you know what that means? I'm not sure that I do.

Overall, you might want to discuss with your vendor what benefit you will get from this contract. Or you could ask my boss for a competitive quote Smile

THe big thing you seem to be missing that is much harder to automate is detecting performance regression from your critical business processes.
