Hi!

I'm maintaining Oracle database by MS ACCESS. I have some records in a table, that are locked with message:
"The database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

It's strange, that it affects only some (but always the same) records in the same table, but only for me, not any other user. What can be the problem? Shocked

Thanks forward!

Most likely MS access.

Maybe want to look at using a proper tool to manage the database, like sql plus or one of the more traditional oracle GUIS if you need it.

Thanks for replies!

I think, that the problem comes from difference of settings of ODBC or Terminal Server by several users. I will give feedback, if the problem will be solved.

I remember (this is from some time go) that Access couldn't do row level locking: it locked what I think they called a "page". As far as Oracle is concerned, it receives a request to lock many rows, or perhaps the whole table, and it just does what it is asked to do. It can be difficult in the ORacle environment to work out who has locked which rows, but there are tools that will help. I find the old utllockt.sql script useful for this.

Our admins has found the cause of the problem. The difference between users can modify and users can't modify some records is, that the problem affects the 32 bit version of the MS Access. The MS Access 64 bit version works smoothly. Supposedly the cause may be any NULL data. Thanks for replies!
