We have a Oracle database, and have a outside contractor for dba.
But I am trying to learn too.

I see enterprise manager is a very useful tool for dba, but I tried http://localhost:1158/em, it load the page but with blank and a couple wierd vertical lines on the page.

What could be wrong, and I know our contractor dba can monitor the database and disk, I wonder if she uses Enterprise manager database control too installed on the server, but it is not showing?

Thanks,

Since you have a question regarding the local implementation, the best answers will come from the local DBA.

In addition, you can use EM only if the DBA grants you the privilege to do so; so anyway you have to contact her.

Depending on your release and the configuration, EM may be secured. Try
https://lcalhost:1158/em

I do have DBA access. Our contracter DBA is part time, and work outside our company as needed. I am trying to learn how to manage it.

I just now tried emctl start dbconsole, and it shows there is an instance already open, but I cannot see it:
here is the message:

H:\>emctl start dbconsole
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.2.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2010 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
https://ouripdaddess:1158/em/console/aboutApplication
- An instance of Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control is already runn
ing.

Then I try emctl status dbconsole,
it shows below:

H:\>emctl status dbconsole
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.2.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2010 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
https://ourip:1158/em/console/aboutApplication
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g is running.

>I just now tried emctl start dbconsole, and it shows there is an instance already open, but I cannot see it:
I do not know to what "it" refers.
I do not know if the first "it" (left side) refers to same object at the second "it (right side).
I don't know what you can & can not see, since I can not see what you see.
EM is NOT required to start, operate or manage any Oracle DB.
EM is a CRUTCH for folks who are challenged to even spell SQL.

So, exactly as I told you 24 hours ago, your console is using HTTPS.
You said "I am trying to learn". A good starting point would be to read the advice that you are given Smile

I tried the https: it is not working.
So even after I typed emctl status dbcontrol, the message shows that enterprise manager 11 g is running, I cannot see it.
I suppose if I type https://localhost:1158/em in browser, the login page will show, but what I can see is a blank page.

but that is different from what is reported!

since you insist on obfuscating reality, we can't know what is real & what you have changed wrongly!
