Why SNMP agent is required in the network. Can we do all the snmp work without snmp agent

The question basically is the same as "Can I do all the car work without a car".

The answer is "depends".

You can of course go to the corner store by foot instead of a car.
You can of course go to the next town over by bus or by train instead of a car.

Whether that is "good enough" for the exact thing you need to do you have to decide based on the thing you want to do exactly.

not clear. I think MIB is used for DB. So what is exactly purpose of SNMP agent, what is the working of agent.

Can you please explain with example.

Lets suppose, I have SNMP manager and a database which has counters value, Manager can directly interact with DB. So why agent is required ?

It's explained in the first chapter "Benefits of Oracle SNMP Support".

If you don't want to use any tools that require SNMP, then the agent is not required. If you want to use tools that require SNMP then it is required. What is the problem you actually have?

My requirement is that, I have a application which has some counters value in oracle database. SNMP manager can request for such counters.
Can i process the get request without agent?

P.S.- We are going to use oracle db instead of MIB.

If you can change the application not to use SNMP but some other connection to Oracle:Yes.
If you can't change the application to not use SNMP: No.
