Are you unable or unwilling to run test cases to learn the answer yourself?

By the way, how does brain dead software actually determine which records should be classified as duplicate values?

Only you should be knowing it.

HUH?

I have no input or impact when you do either table compression or table defragmentation.

What is duplicate for you may not be duplicate for me.
If every table has PK, then by definition no duplicates exist.
In a well designed application, duplicate records NEVER exist.

I don't know much about the defragmentation technique. However, advance table compression in 11g works well as publicized by Oracle. It is specially designed for the OLTP tables and works at block level. You can make use of the "Oracle Advanced Compression Advisor" package.

A good read for you.
