So far 12c is only available for Linus and Solaris, not for us Windows folks. I browsed through the new features and found some interesting stuff though, like being able to create a function within a "with" clause of a select statement that can be used in the select statement, in the same manner that you can create one in an anonymous pl/sql block for usage within that block. There are a few Oracle Text enhancements too. I wonder when they'll have it for Windows, so I can download it and experiment.

I clicked on the link that you provided. I was already logged in. I accepted the license agreement. I clicked on file1 and nothing happened. Has anyone been able to successfully download it? Am I missing something?

I already had JavaScript enabled. I don't see any cookies option anywhere, but they keep changing the names of things and moving them to different menus. I had pop-up windows blocked, so I unblocked it. This time it prompted me to login again, then nothing. I clicked on downloads in my Firefox browser and saw that it is downloading file1, so I started it downloading file2 also. I used to have DownThemAll pop up and I don't know what happened to that. So, it is showing that it will take several hours to finish downloading. One nice feature of DownThemAll was that it allowed me to easily resume downloading if I lost my internet connection. I will have to wait and see what this does. I think I may have lost all of my Firefox add-ons and plug-ins on some upgrade or some such thing, and may have to reinstall them all.

Now I get:

C:\Users\Owner\Downloads\winx64_12c_database_1of2.zip.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

and

C:\Users\Owner\Downloads\winx64_12c_database_2of2.zip.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator

I think I am going to give up for now.

I downloaded DownThemAll again, re-started FireFox, then started trying to download Oracle 12c again. This time, DownThemAll appeared in my options and the download is proceeding as expected so far.

I left my computer running. When I checked, I found that I had lost my internet connection. DownThemAll showed that I had successfully completed downloading of two 5kb html files that began with the words "download-fail". I have never seen that happen before. Usually, if I lose my internet connection, DownThemAll allows me to reconnect and resume. So, I have reconnected and am starting over again, trying to download just the first file1.

My internet connection flat-lined (0 bytes receiving). Unfortunately, it does that from time to time. So, I got a timeout message from DownThemAll. I found that the timeout was set to 5 minutes, it was set to retry every 5 minutes, with 5 retries. So, I changed it to the maximum timeout after 15 minutes, the minimum retry after 1 minute, and the maximum 50 retries, and it resumed downloading. It seems to be moving along again. I don't think I have ever had this much trouble downloading a file.

My laptop computer eventually ceased being able to do anything. I think it has an over-heating problem. When it gets too hot, it slows down, then shuts down. I don't usually leave it running all day, like I did trying to download the file. So, I cancelled the download. I plan to try downloading just file1 first thing tomorrow morning, when the computer is cold and I can check periodically while doing other things, so that I can reconnect and resume quickly whenever the internet connection is lost. I plan to do the same thing the following morning with file2, then try to unzip and install the day after that. There has got to be a way to get this done.

I tried to download it again this morning. Everything was going fine until all of a sudden it failed again, even though my computer was not over-heating and I hadn't lost my internet connection, and it could not have used up all 50 retries. This time I read the download-fail-1505220.html file and it said:

Sorry!
In order to download products from Oracle Technology Network you must agree to the OTN license terms.
Be sure that...
Your browser has "cookies" and JavaScript enabled.
You clicked on "Accept License" for the product you wish to download.
You attempt the download within 30 minutes of accepting the license.

I did accept the license agreement and so forth and obviously those were not the problem or it would not have downloaded what it did before it aborted. So, I think the problem may be a combination of slow internet connection and Oracle automatically logging me out after 30 minutes or something like that. I have noticed when using the OTN forums, that it seems to automatically log me out from time to time and others have complained about that as well. So, I think I will give up for now, unless anyone has any other ideas.

I was finally able to complete downloading Oracle 12c, thanks to some help on the OTN downloads issues forum. Currently, when you download 12c from OTN, it is done through a URL that includes an authparam that expires after half an hour. So, if you lose your internet connection or your computer shuts down and more than half an hour has gone by, then you cannot resume the download in the usual manner that you would do with DownThemAll or similar utilities. I ended up downloading and installing wget for Windows and using that. Even then, you have to get the new url with the new file name with the new authparam using FireFox's Web Console or something similar, then rename the previous file with the old authparam to match the new file with new authparam in the new url in order to continue an interrupted load. So, it took a while to figure out what to do, then a while longer to do it in bits and pieces. Now I just need to unzip and install, so I can play with the new features. You can read the whole saga here:

Wee! I thought you were downloading some software, not launching Space Shuttle ... Truly amazing. I think I'd give up.
