He was talking about db down time issues. I prefer dblink because that's the one i'm familiar with.

I doubt that folks who own this other DB containing foreign exchange rates will give you username/password access into their DB that is required to make DBLINK succeed.

that's exactly what was in my mind when this guy was explaining to me about downtime issues regarding db link connections. But I did not say it because I have no idea about web service. hehe

Why not? if they will just limit my access into viewing their foreign exchange tables.
