RECOVERY FROM RMAN BACKUP [message #567870]

Hi
We have a nightly rman backup that was complete and clean.

The backup contains a Data File, Control File and a backup Archive Log file.

The database server crashed with all the subsequent archive logs lost.

We are trying to recover from the three backup files.

We are bumping into the backup piece missing as all the archive logs are done.

Any ideas how to restore with the exising backup files. the lost archive logs are probably salvagable.

Most Professional Organization have documented & tested Recovery Manual.
When was the last time the DB was successfully restored from backup files.

Ideally the DB can be restored as of the most recent available REDO files.

It is hard to work out what you are doing, but it sounds to me as though you need to use incomplete recovery. I can't remember the 9i syntax, but for a currently supported release you would use
RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE n;
where n is the first missing archive logfile.

Hi Swan,

This is the first time we had a major crash like this and the first time we are trying to recover.
The partitions that had both the data files and archive logs are gone due to a multiple drive failure.
All we have are the backup files from the last nights backup.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi Jason,

This is not working.
The recovery starts and says recovery completed but when try to open it crashes.

Any ideas.

"This is not working" is not an Oracle error message. Neither is "it crashes".

Hi Jason,
Sorry, i get the following error when using the recover database until sequence n thread 1;
rman-03002 failure of alter db command at 10/8/12 6.28.21
ora-01092: oracle instance terminated. disconnection forced.

The backup was taken in oracle 9i release1 and the recovery is done in 9i release 2.

Are you incapable of reading?
I said, "copy/paste" and "use [code] tags".

You might also want to think about the difference betwaeen "restore" and "upgrade".

I have also same problem with 10g Oracle Express Edition. I am taking back up using RMAN backup utility . But I do not know how i could restore that back up in other system/pc. I want to migrate the data from one pc to another pc.

Kindly Help me.Thanks in advance.
