Hi,

I have a report that runs fine if I run it from the developer whether to preview or to file. The users are running this report from an Oracle Forms app and have a drop down for the destination format. If they run it to PDF for example, the report runs fine. If they run it to TXT132, TXT180, or TXT they get a "REP-1219 'FIELD_NAME' has no size -- length or width is zero".

Of course I am unable to get into the test application right now and as I mentioned above, I am unable to duplicate the error when I run the report from the developer. Has anybody encountered this problem before? I am not sure why I would get a REP-1219 only when running to a TXT file.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you,
~k

Huh, that's really stupid error and I hate it (I'm glad YOU got it, not me). It says that - if you open a Paper Layout Editor - there's a field whose length or width are zero and you can't even see it on the screen. It helps if you know which field it is - then, you'd delete it from Object Navigator or from the query itself, recompile the report, run it (to make sure it works OK), and then create that field again.

Perhaps you could try to recompile the report as it is (Compile All: Ctrl + Shift + K) before taking other steps.

Hi Littlefoot,

Thank you for the reply. The problem is, I CAN see the field and it works fine for everything BUT when the user runs it to a TXT file. I can't even duplicate the error.

Thoughts?

Kristina

As I said:
a) try to Ctrl + Shift + K
b) delete the field, recompile, recreate the field

I can't promise either of these will actually help; sorry.

Thanks - that worked. And now I am getting the same error on another field. I assume this is one of those quirky Oracle Reports issues and all I can do is to keep deleting and recreating fields?

Thank you...

Unfortunately, that's the only way I know. Hopefully, someone will know better (I'd be happy if he/she posts the solution here!).

Oh, and now it's on a text field that is just a dotted line under the report total! Do I just need to delete every single field and recreate it?

Thanks - and this IS an Oracle Reports issue, right? I think my boss thinks I am crazy!

I believe it is Reports; out of all Oracle software I've worked with, Reports seems to be the most unstable and unpredictable. For example, I can't remember Forms ever crashed. But Reports ... whoa, number of reports that were lost because they were sorry for the inconvenience is huge. "Save frequently" is Reports' mantra.

I appreciate the feedback. I am still so new to all this that it's nice to get reassurance that I am not just crazy. LOL
