I am testing to move the production DB to a new server.
The current OS is windows 2000 server and the new OS i want to use is windows 2003 server.
I have the RMAN backup file along with the catalog file.

I have already installed the Oracle software and pathces on to the new server.
What are the steps to create the database from the RMAN backup file.

Please help.

why are willing to upgrade the OS from one unsupported version to another
& yet stick with obsoleted & unsupported version of Oracle DB?

same as to restore any DB from RMAN backup.
Don't you have documented & tested Recovery Manual?

Dont have license for newer version of DB nor the support.
The version we have with the patch seems to be stable.

We dont have any documentation.
what is the difference between restore from dmp and rman.
I have done the prior more than a few times and it works ok.

I want to try restore from rman so I may not have to do a lot of extra steps
