What did you do "last week"? Install any new software? If so, which one?

What is the evidence the server "hangs"?
What did you do to diagnose this? Copy and paste what you did and got.
Are you sure this comes from Oracle instance?

Michel

The evidence is users are not able to connect to the database.
When the users are not able to connect then only we come to know that database server got hangup.
We do mannualy restart the windos 2000 server and shutdown and startup the database.
Since oracle 9i database alone installed we assume that oracle instance was the problem.

From what?
Ths first I think when a user can't connect is that his network cable is unplugged.

Through forms 6i loging in is not possible when the server got hangup.
so they complain about the login, after that we do check the server which is not responding at all.

OK.

But the opposite is not true. So the server can go well and the user can't log.
Or if you prefer, this is not because the user can't log that the server hangs.
So prove us (and yourself) the server really hangs (whatever this means for you and you have to tell us).

Michel

I don't know how to give further details to you Michel.

Can you tell me the reasons from the database server hangup if u can.

One of the reasons may be not enough memory, anything else... if u can

The database does not hang... unless you prove it does.

Hello - I'll try to identify the problem, at least a bit. When you refer to the "the server", do you meant the Oracle instance, or the machine on which it is running? Is it the machine that you say hangs, or is the machine happy and it is the instance that hangs?

You are saying that - when users report that "it is hanging" - you go to the computer (running under Windows 2000 server), log on (Ctrl + Alt + Del, enter password), and you can't do absolutely nothing because computer doesn't respond, so you need to shut it off and on again.

Is that correct?

It wont look it is always open so no need of ctl+alt+del
when we try to move the mouse or key board doesn't respond. so we press the restart button.

So why do you think it is something related to the database?
In fact, you don't know anything about the reason.

Exactly. Sounds more like a hardware or OS issue.
I would throw the problem back to the system administrators.

If it is not related to database then the server machine should have hangup in the mid night.
why it always hangup in the working hours.
Tell me the possible reason for server machine hangup.
Like virus signature updates, or any server updates .. and os on tell me the reasons like this .
If sga and pga was not properly sized will the database work properly.
Three months before the same problem eventhough there is 4 GB of RAM the database was using only 300MB
we configured it by give SGA - 700 MB and PGA -- 400 totally 1100mb of RAM used then other parameter like process parameter was set from 150 to 200, then currently using schema objects are moved to separate tablespace, all the index were move to sepearate index tablespace. After that the server hangup stoped and it was working fine for past 3 months,
Suddenly from last week it started hangingup again.

Sorry, I can't advise on what make a WIndows box hang. Particularly not when you don't ever say "thank you".
