Hello

I have query regarding the scope of Oracle DBA activities

Of course the role demand may change from workplace to workplace and project to project however to keep oneself up-to-date and market-compliant what are "required" and "not required" for the DBA role?

I feel years back Oracle DBA was expected to look after Architecture, design, connectivity, coding, performance, backup/ recovery (with various tools and utilities) then Oracle Application server, SSO, SSL, OID, Workflow
Further added DWH and related tools and integration with many application servers etc. etc.
Thus the role changed from database specialist to database specialist + infrastructure - Architect

Though many tools / utilities / interfaces are tightly coupled with database and its' Administrative roles can we distinguish between following, things needed to know by Oracle DBA and not?

Ex.
BPEL
BPM
SOA
Weblogic (question for features except caching, connection pooling etc.)
Service Bus
Coherence

Things to know for the dba, the first activities you summed up + OS / hardware troubleshooting (san's + virtualisation)
In modern age things get mingled as DWH (other approach than oltp),introduction of SSD's, cloud ...

not required, although it is nice to know what those acronyms stand for
BPEL: technical representation of a business process
BPM: business process modeling aka what happens if you need to order x. Easier notation for management
SOA: architecture model. Design from "service"aspect that provide nimble specific services vs silos that provide all. Cloud?
Weblogic: no clue but probably a webserver (optimized for java?)
Service Bus: a layer where "contracts" are signed between serviceproviders for easier handling... (?)
Coherence: problably part of keep it simple. Keep related items close to each other (?)
