Hi,

It is just thought or trial,

I have one server A with oracle 9i (9.2.0.4) i know it is not supported but department still using is for old application.

I have give new server B. If i copy everything just like on the server A to Server B will i be able to start instance?

Please guide

answer depends on exactly what is same & what is different between the 2 servers

there are same os packages and structure of file and system all the database are same as server A

do clean SHUTDOWN on Server A, copy all necessary files to same directories on Server B & STARTUP both databases

i have done that now but when i go to sqlplus and log in as sys as sysdba it says insufficient previlege. So i cannot pass through the sqlpplus to start the database!! guide

According to the data you gave us:

Everything is not the same. Make everything the same (including OS users and file permissions), then try again.

This problem could be because even though your username and groups are the same on both machines, your UID and GIDs are not.

Problem might be with the UID's & GID's as referred by John. Check them & revert. Also, crosscheck all the required files on the server B like password file etc.
