I'm installing Oracle 11g, release 2 X64 on a Red Hat 5.6 OS. Red Hat was insstalled under Oracle VM. When I attempt to start the Oracle OUI with the command ./runInstaller, the following message is displayed:

An internal error occurred within cluster verification framework
Unable to get the current group

I've read various message from Oracle FAQ and Google with no result. Most messages stated that packages (rpm) are missing, but all packages stated from the installation guide were installed ... help.

I would check with Oracle Support/Metalink.
Several similar bugs are already filed.
Please post relevant contents from the installation logfile.

Thank for your help. As mentioned earlier, RHEL 5.6 is installed upder Oracle VM. Oracle VM is running with Window 7 where my web browser is being used. I have not figured how to past file from RHEL to Window 7 using Oracle VM. One way is through a network connection, but I'm not on one at this time. I will try to send the log file later ... Stewart.

Just use firefox / mozilla in your RHEL 5.6.

Flash card also does the trick as well. This is the log file generated when I attempt to install Oracle.

As a test, I've downloaded Oracle 11g R1 to see if the OUI would at least start. It did, so I proceeded to install that version of Oracle.

I succeeded in installing Oracle 11g Release 1 with no problem, why I have problem with Release 2 is beyond me. In any case, I'm now trying to download a patch from the Oracle web site that will upgrade 11g R1 to 11g R2. When I goes into the download area, it only contains installation to 11g R2, nothing on upgrade.

My feeling is that Oracle may have an patch for an upgrade, but it may require metalink permits or license product which is what I don't have. Is there's an area where I can download a patch to upgrade 11g R2?

Oracle Support / Metalink is the official place to get patchsets.
As said before, there are very similar bugs reported for Other OS.
Check metalink.
