Hello Experts,

I am having a performance problem with a 10g database..
There are a large number of "ora_p" processes for that database as below : -

Quote:
oracle 16890 1 5 00:00 ? 00:50:59 ora_p024_LVF
oracle 16928 1 4 00:00 ? 00:42:00 ora_p025_LVF
oracle 17003 1 5 00:00 ? 00:43:46 ora_p026_LVF
oracle 17046 1 4 00:00 ? 00:42:43 ora_p027_LVF
oracle 17086 1 4 00:00 ? 00:42:06 ora_p028_LVF
oracle 17134 1 5 00:00 ? 00:51:34 ora_p029_LVF
oracle 17174 1 6 00:00 ? 00:58:15 ora_p030_LVF
oracle 17286 1 5 00:00 ? 00:45:11 ora_p031_LVF
oracle 17320 1 8 00:00 ? 01:09:38 ora_p032_LVF
oracle 17362 1 7 00:00 ? 01:07:10 ora_p033_LVF
oracle 17400 1 5 00:00 ? 00:43:33 ora_p034_LVF
oracle 17433 1 9 00:00 ? 01:24:13 ora_p035_LVF
oracle 17475 1 5 00:00 ? 00:49:21 ora_p036_LVF
oracle 17512 1 5 00:00 ? 00:50:01 ora_p037_LVF
oracle 17572 1 4 00:00 ? 00:41:48 ora_p038_LVF
oracle 17599 1 5 00:00 ? 00:45:44 ora_p039_LVF

Please let me know what are these processes, this might help me analyze the problem further...

Thank You

These are parallel server processes you started.
Check your parallel% parameters and above all parallel_max_servers.

All background processes are described in:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17110/bgprocesses.htm#sthref4453

Regards
Michel
