Recover database with lost of some datafiles and some archivelogs [message #487283]

Hi

We have lost some datafiles and some archivelogs. We have backup of whole database taken on Dec 20 and archivelogs until Dec 23.
So we dont have 1 day worth of archivelogs which can lead to incomplete recovery.

Now question is do we need to restore all datafiles or only lost datafiles for incomplete recovery since we dont have all archivelogs ?
lost datafiles belong to different tablespaces.

Datafiles which are still intact are with current SCN and we restore lost datafiles only and recover unitl our last available archivelog it will have different SCN.
Will we be able to open database or we need to resotre whole database for this scenario ?

you must restore all datafiles, do NOT restore the controlfile.

You can restore and recover ONLY to the last archived logs you have.
You can also restore the database in another place, recover it to the last possible SCN, export all what is in your lost tablespaces. Then, in your failed one, you offline and drop the lost tablespaces, open reset logs the database, recreate the drop tablespaces and import what you saved from the other database.
This is the best you can have.

I think full restore and recover until last log will be easier.

Guys luckily we got our archivelogs diskgroup mounted ,
Can we now just now restore just our missing datafiles now instead of restoring all datafiles and then recover then to current SCN ?

You should consider doing a full cold backup before starting any recovery/restoration.
If so, then you will be able to get back to current state should problems arise in the future.

Yes - and be certain NOT to restore controlfile or online logs, trhey must be current.
Complete recovery! That should give you a happy christmas.
