I try to estimate chances to correct a mistake of changing the DBID for the database that already has backup history in RMAN. The old database was and is perfectly registered in RMAN catalog.
Is it possible to make backups for old DBID available for new DBID?
Is it possible to put back the previous ID and make old backups available again?
Leonid

No.

No, not in a supported way.

Why would you want to do that?

If you need to restore from old DBID backup, you can only restore until the last backup for that DBID.

Else if you restore from new DBID backups the earliest will start from first backup you took after changing the DBID.

I do not see a need to do "cross-dbid" restore, which cannot be done due to opening the database with "reset logs" at the time the DBID was changed.

Restore/recover across reset logs can be done since a couple of versions.

Seems like a fatal mistake, then. Backups for the old DBID become useless for the database with new DBID.
Thank you all.
