RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 4 found to restore [message #482202]

Hi,

I have been trying to restore backups from the live database to another fresh database but to no avail. I have spent days on that.

I have been able to recover the control files.
But when i do
RMAN> restore database validate;

i get
Starting restore at 10-NOV-10
using channel ORA_DISK_1
using channel ORA_DISK_2

data file 5 will be created automatically during restore operation
data file 6 will be created automatically during restore operation
data file 7 will be created automatically during restore operation
data file 8 will be created automatically during restore operation

But everything seems to be fine when i do

You didn't back up the 4 mentionned files (at least in this incarnation).

Well its an incremental backup, and it does backup the whole database also, as u can see when i did the list backup , it does show a full backup with 0.
APPPLU_20101109_2100_INCR_0_f0lsjm6r_1_1

So something else must be wrong.

Unless I'm missing something, the only thing I can make out in your list recoverable backup command are backups for controlfiles/spfile and archivelogs ?

Where are the backups of your datafiles ?

I think i really missed some backups. Cos i blindly copied all the backups this time and it got restored.

But is there a way to know which files i should have copied for the restore to be done. Cos i copied even expired backups.

The backup script does cater for deleting the obsolete ones.

So my backup folder always contain valid ones.

Thx for your help.

I will find out more abt the backup and recovery strategies
