Hi,

We have production environment running on oracle 9i database. we are planning to upgrade it to 10g. I have reviewed many documents and blogs but still have few concerns. Pls provide me complete steps to upgrade our 9i db to 10g.Also if anyone can clear these points.

1. For 9i to 10g upgrade we need to install oracle 10g with
different oracle_home and then launch dbua and upgrade 9i?

2. will new installed 10g home will read 9i home when dbua
launched?

3. Is there any upgrade installer available to upgrade to 10g like
patchset upgrade installer?

Thanks in advance, Waiting for reply

Hi,

Due to some unavoidable reasons we couldn't proceed with the up gradation. One more thing i need to clarify, After upgrading 9i to 10g, what to do with installed 10g home(new home)installed for 9i up gradation? either we have to remove it or what?

Thanks,
Yasir Aftab

What you want!
Once you have upgraded the database it is no more useful (unless you want to downgrade some time later or create another 9i database or have some local client programs that requires 9i and assuming you didn't put your database files inside 9i home).

Let me clarify my question in steps.

1. For 9i upgradation i need to install oracle 10g on same machine with different oracle_home;
2. After installing i will have 2 oracle_homes(oracle9i and oracle10g) , Right?
3. Will Upgrade 9i to 10g using 10g(new installed) dbua, Right?
4. After upgradation, we still have 2 oracle_homes, one upgraded 10g(previously 9i) and other new installed 10g.

My question was, now we will only need upgraded 10g home(previously 9i), not the new installed 10g. so we need to delete it after upgradation?
Hope i have clarified....

Regards,
Yasir

1. OK
2. Right
3. Right
4. Right

As I said:

I don't know how I could to say it simpler.
You no more need it unless you need it.

You do need to delete old home, you may delete it unless you need it for something.
